Canyon sent out replacement kit for Formula Oro brakes

Formula Oro Disc Brake HandleLast week I received a letter from Canyon Bicycles where I bought my last bike. They pointed my attention to my Formula Oro front and rear disc brake handles. As they write there is the possibility of a loose (headless) screw that secures the brake lever. But there is only a limited range of serial numbers possibly defective.
All brakes produced prior to June 1st 2007 should be checked. In particular the manufacturing error could affect all brakes with a serial number lower than 295236.

I checked my brake handles and found them to be of serial numbers 230000 and 140000 something. Both screws were tight and everything in order. But this might be a lucky case. Better check yours carefully or have someone do it for you. A lost screw could cause the brake to not function correct and might result in heavy crashes.

Click on the image for an outline (german only) of where the screw sits and where to turn to in case you want to have someone familiar with this type of brake look at it.
Canyon also sent a 2mm socket wrench (hex-wrench), two replacement screws and bolts.

In order to see if your brake is affected check the small screw with the mentioned wrench and try to carefully turn it clockwise. Do not force it to turn if it sits tight. The description proposes 2Nm of force or 1Nm for Carbon brake handles.
If you have a defective Formula Oro disc brake and the screw is already lost contact your bike dealer or get in contact with formula-brake.de or formulabrakeusa.com
